If you are a battery hauler, refurbisher or processor under the Batteries Regulation, you must create an account in the Authority’s Batteries Registry.

Haulers are required to complete an annual performance report to provide information about their recovery and management activities in the previous calendar year. Haulers must report single-use and rechargeable batteries separately.

Haulers will need to log into their Registry account annually and report the following information:

• Total weight of batteries in kg picked up
  • Single-use batteries picked up inside and outside of Ontario
  • Rechargeable batteries picked up inside and outside of Ontario
• Total weight of batteries dropped off
  • Single-use batteries sent for processing and refurbishing
  • Rechargeable batteries sent for processing and refurbishing

Deadline: Battery performance reporting is due April 30 of each year.

Refurbishers are required to complete an annual performance report to provide information about their recovery and management activities in the previous calendar year. Refurbishers must report single-use and rechargeable batteries separately.

Refurbishers will need to log into their Registry account annually and report the following information:

• Weight of single-use and rechargeable batteries received by each hauler
• Weight of single-use and rechargeable batteries that were refurbished
• Weight of single-use and rechargeable batteries sent for processing

Processors are required to complete an annual performance report to provide information about their recovery and management activities in the previous calendar year. Processors must report single-use and rechargeable batteries separately.

Processors will need to log into their Registry account annually and report the following information:

• Weight of single-use and rechargeable batteries received from each hauler
• Identify the processing method used (e.g. shredding, smelting, etc.)
• Weight of processed materials data for single-use and rechargeable batteries
• Weight of single-use and rechargeable batteries received but not processed
  • Batteries sent for reuse
  • Batteries sent to a different processor
• Weight of processed material outputs
  • Weight of processed materials that were sent to a different processor for further processing based on material type (e.g. paper, plastic, metal, etc.)
  • Weight of processed materials that were used to make products and packaging
  • Weight of processed materials that were sent to a downstream processor to make products or packaging
  • Weight of processed materials that were made to enrich soil
  • Weight of processed materials that were made into aggregate
• Processed material disposed for single-use batteries
  • Weight of materials that were land disposed
  • Weight of materials that were incinerated (excludes material used as fuel or fuel supplement)
  • Weight of material used as fuel or fuel supplement
  • Weight of materials stored, stockpiled, or otherwise deposited on land
• Processed material disposed for rechargeable batteries
  • Weight of materials that were land disposed
  • Weight of materials that were incinerated (excludes material used as fuel or fuel supplement)
  • Weight of materials used as fuel or fuel supplement
  • Weight of materials stored, stockpiled, or otherwise deposited on land
• Details about products and packaging made from materials
  • Details of products and packaging you created out of processed materials
  • Details of products made from materials you sent to a downstream processor
• The recycling efficiency rate (RER) for single-use and rechargeable batteries

At the time of reporting, processors are required to submit a RER verification report and can reference the Batteries Verification and Audit Registry Procedure to calculate RER.
